A Pond is born

Plants can not only enhance the beauty of a pond, they’re also great for wildlife, creating shelter both above and below the water, offering perching or resting sites, and helping creatures get in and out of the water. Some plants can also add oxygen to the water, while others play a vital role shading the surface.

What we’ve added to the pond so far.

  • Hornwort (Ceratophyllum dermersum)
  • Common Water Crowfoot (Ranunculus aquatilis)
  • Marsh marigold (Caltha Palustris)
  • Water Forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides)
  • Bog Bean (Menyanthes trifoliata)
  • Juncus articulatus (Jointed Rush)
  • Yellow Flag Iris (Iris Pseudacorus)

All the plants are native to the UK and grown in the UK to reduce the risk of  disease.

What we’ve planted so far is just the start. Due to budgetary restraints we had to whittle back our shopping list until the coffers are a bit healthier.
